WASHINGTON - Intelligence analysts predicted, in secret papers circulated within the government before the
Iraq invasion, that al-Qaida would see U.S. military action as an opportunity to increase its operations and that Iran would try to shape a post-Saddam Iraq.
The top analysts in government also said that establishing a stable democracy in Iraq would be a "long, difficult and probably turbulent process."Democrats said the newly declassified documents, part of a Senate Intelligence Committee investigation released Friday, make clear that the Bush administration was warned about the very challenges it now faces as it tries to stabilize Iraq.
"Sadly, the administration's refusal to heed these dire warnings — and worse, to plan for them — has led to tragic consequences for which our nation is paying a terrible price," said Senate Intelligence Chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va.

That and it was all over the news and talk shows at the time as well.

not the part about alqaeda that part is a 80% straw man

I agree that neither the UK or US administrations paid much heed to advice. The result of any action would always be horrendous, in the long term.

I will also point out that the fact finding was started and the brunt of the work done starting 4 years ago in a republican controlled intelligence committe.  And a couple of republicans actually voted with the democrats (I guess this is the cooperation part)  probably more scathing than the republicans would have set forth.

In any case, the idea has always been do it (further the agenda), and damn the consequences.  We don't need to deal with no stinkin' aftermath....this is about par for the course as evidenced by the readiness of the administration to deal with Katrina....except this has a little more far reaching consequence.

It doesn't matter what the Intel Community said, Bush *INTENTIONALLY AND WITH MALICE AFORETHOUGHT* engaged in a deliberate conspiracy to deny Congress their oversight role.

18 USC 371. It's not just a good idea, it's the Law.

You, well i mean Me as thats what you typed.
i was lucky to be in New Orleans on vacation ( from the UK ) 4 weeks before Katrina struck. Even then it was evident that the water levels were high from previous tropical storms. It really saddened me to here that the year before Katrina, the corps of engineers reported urgent work on the water defences was needed, yet nothing was done. Our armed forces sent millions of emergency ration packs, yet the US administration refused them due to the BSE scare from several years before. Thats both sad and short sighted.

Had there actually been intelligence in the White House, we never would have ended up in the war we have.

I feel insulted.

I did not vote for Bush.

I voted Green the previous 3 elections so I did not vote for any of the melonheads who voted to authorize going to war.

Dont try to blame this one on me!
