quote:

-- Space Travel: "228 space shuttle orbiters," wrote one Webbie. "Since the space program is often depicted as large and costly, I thought it would make for an interesting comparison." Another stated, "It cost Charles Simonyi $25 million to get blasted into space. So $456 billion could blast 18,240 people into space. I have a long list of people I'd like to see blasted into space, but not that long."

-- Give It to The Iraqi People: "The population of Iraq is 27 million, so that's over $16,000 per person," wrote a reader. "With a per capita income of $3,600, $456 billion would pay each person in the country their usual income for just about the duration of this war."

-- Remember The Soldiers: "Just the new spending bill of $120 billion could give over $42 million to each of the 3,000 dead soldiers' families," wrote one reader.

ummm,  we dont have this money to spend. it  is on debt- rather like a charge card.

anyhow- every person could get one hell of a buzz with that amount,......

Well, *I* know that, but since it was spent, it's nice to see how badly it's being wasted.

We're going deeper and deeper into the red, and it's not even for anything that's going to bring in any revenue.

My biggest beef, is that we *could have* had the array of solar power satellites, beaming down LIMITLESS ENERGY to us and our friends, and we could have told the Saudis, that we'll be selling THEM the energy cheaper than they could pump it and get it refined...

That would have been 300 Billion, and I expect for a few million dollars, every environmental lobby could be brought on board.

( No NUCLEAR PLANTS, No COAL PLANTS, No Natgas Plants, What's not to love? )
