Egads people, take a pill....so Bush can speak in public....no shit he's a politician. Bush's speechs are written for him by anonymous staffers...no shit, he's a politician. Bush's Q&A session questions are vetted in advance, no shit...he's a politician.
I am constantly astounded by american politics...everything is so black & white...you either love or hate the president....what ever happened to just disliking the guy less than the alternatives?

The problem is not whether I like or dislike the President.

The thread is about his ability to put words together into a meaningful sentence, and to me he does not seem to be saying anything different than the mindless twaddle that has emanated from his pie-hole since he got us into this mess.

With a side detour expressing my shock that somebody actually believes what he says.

I guess you missed the last third of that, where he was speaking off the cuff (and doing very well at it, too). How much commentary do you need... wasn't the way I titled the post enough for you? And if you really need one, there's a hyperlink in there for you, at the end.

Are you always this picky?

You realize, of course, that this is not a verbatim transcript?  I watched him give his prepared remarks and the Q+A that followed, and this has been edited.  That's to be expected--you always clean things up before you turn it into a written document.

Hey!!!!

Don't be putting facts into the equation now!

(You're going to fuck up a lot of reasonably valid stories if you do that kind of shit).

Hehe!  The funny thing is I didn't even attack Bush or the editing in my first replies--it's normal to edit out a speaker's poor traits if they don't change the substance of the argument.  I simply denigrated Sanity's argument that an edited statement tells us anything at all about a person's public speaking abilities.

I guess that's just how it is in their world tho--it's black vs white.  Those who aren't with us are against us.  Shades of gray are too hard on the mind!

Cnn said that Bush and some of the Senators think that his amnesty bill to be "a flawed bill is better than no bil."
Man, they're getting desperate now!
When asked about a "flawed bill" Lou Dobb's responded,
Flawed bill 3%
No Bill 97%
You know, The American People are talking and there's some people in Washington STILL not LISTENING!
Sen Bunning of Kentucky said 100 calls to his offices were "for" the bill to 2,000 "against" the bill.
I don't understand why some people in our government are fighting The People on this.
They're there to do what we tell them to do.

popeye:
The reason some people in our government are fighting The People on this is that they do not give a fuck.  They are bought and paid for whores who do what their owners tell them to like good little bitches.
The term "public servant" is a job title not a job description for these folks.

The reasons why many in the govt. are ignoring the people are numerous and all work to our disadvantage.  Democrats want to expand their party membership, the prospect of actually putting mechanisms in place to enforce immigration laws is daunting for both parties, some employers are big lobbyists and support amnesty for 20 million or more people (12 million is a bullshit figure) and some senators see this bill an opportunity to be credited with addressing a bad situation before an election.

The better situation, which most Americans support, is NO bill at all.  Enforce the laws as they are written, stringently, and once the borders are secured you can worry about guest worker programs, etc.  The amnesty bill is a ruse more than it is anything.  The laws are in place and if they were enforced the situation would improve.  If the laws continue to remain unenforced we can give amnesty this year to 20 million and do it again  in 2012 for another 5 million and then do it again in 2025 for another 17 million, etc. etc. etc.

There's your Emperor, in all his stammering glory.  The ums, the ahs, the you knows, and the stammers have all been edited out.

You might think this too picky, but remember: your OP was based on the idea that the transcript showed what a brilliant public speaker Bush is.  Watch the video, and you'll see how utterly wrong you are.

I never said "brilliant", I said very good. And I'm listening to it right now, thank you for the link - and he sounds just fine. When does he say "Because I'm the boss" like you claim?

i'm curious Sanity......you stated earlier that you had 'proved' that GWB is a very good speaker on the basis of what turns out to be an edited transcript. In what sense is this a proof?

I agree with you, Sanity, he sounds fine.  No one ever said Bush was a great public speaker.  I think we got spoiled with the way Reagan communicated.  Do you remember Carter?  Carter sounded like a complete fool.

No, we've tended to misunderestimate him.

The joke (hence the smile) was that misunderestimated is a Bushism.

I'm not hearing or seeing any significant editing... so what this 'proves' is that contrary to the lies that you've been told, the man can speak and think on his feet.

If after reading the transcript and hearing the recording of his speech today you don't realize that, you're obviously in denial. You don't have the balls to admit that it to yourself. You should ask yourself, why is that lie so important to you. And you should wonder about the people who repeatedly tell you that lie.
