I prefer something without lyrics - they just seem to get in the way and demand attention that needs to be elsewhere. I usually turn on some Mogwai or Sigur Ros.

Any suggestions?

The slap and snap of flesh and whips;
Muffled screams, moaning and weeping.

Nervous breathing. Begging.

The cooing of dark amusement. Any other music pales when compared. It is best unintruded upon by other sounds.

It all depends on the mood and atmosphere you want to create.

My suggestions:

Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene
native aboriginal didgeridoo music
Indian folk music (as in North or South American)
reggae dub music
the 'classic' Ravel's Bolero

Music is such a personally powerful choice for some.  There are certain artists, (one which is excellent in my opinion, named Heather Nova) whose music is powerful, and emotional; but also has the advantage of being either heavy rock style when loud or passionately soft and precious when played quietly.  I like using artists whose music can fit the scene.  (That does not mean "Hot for Teacher" for each time I play student teacher games.   [sm=biggrin.gif] )

farglebargle -> RE: Looking for good scene music (5/23/2007 2:13:09 PM)

The Beatles, Burt Bacharach and Hal David, The Everly Brothers and Paul Williams

Thank you, each and every one. I now have a huge repertoire I can consider for some scenes, and lifestyle music simply to enjoy outside of the scene. Thank you very much!

I am curious to the translation of LordandMasters posts. Portuguese? Shall I offer a pathetic attempt to interpret? O tortured flesh, my love...tortured, you are my love...I am your father.. ????

Your next one comes across far more naughty. Either way, I am interested in them. I will look them up. Thank you.

I am grateful for everyone's replies. I was not expecting such a spectacular response. I will be looking at all the music mentioned.

Thank you kindly!

i have had a Dominant Lady play with to the strains of Shostakovich's 4th symphony, the Adagio from Bruckner's 8th symphony anomg others.  i have had a thought that Stravinsky's LeSacre du Printemps would also be good (except for the final section in which the meter somewhat randomly varies between measures -- only a Domme trained in dance could do a good job whipping to that rhythm.)

Berlioz's Requiem (?)  Rather creepy, but moving.
Do you recall the scene in Sleeping with the Enemy when Julia Robert's ...ah, strong husband wants to make love and puts in this music....deliciously creepy, vicariously thrilling.

OedipusRexIt -> RE: Looking for good scene music (5/23/2007 11:31:11 PM)

The timeless classic Don't Touch Me There by the Tubes is all you need.

ah, Re Styles.... where in heaven or hell are you?

Rob Zombie's "More Human Than Human" always gets me in the mood as well as "Closer" by NIN

chellekitty -> RE: Looking for good scene music (7/5/2007 1:11:13 AM)

just for reference i am pretty sure LordandMaster's posts were in latin

Bluebird -> RE: Looking for good scene music (7/5/2007 1:15:48 AM)

I enjoy the Blue Man Group soundtrack (percussion), and also John Lord's Sarabande (most of it, anyway).

instynctive -> RE: Looking for good scene music (7/5/2007 3:37:41 AM)

Music-wise, I am always looking for overall sound, not necessarily lyrics/artist/title...  I prefer slow, throbbing, hypnotic music.. Enigma is great for that.. good bass, sexy, astral..

Lacuna Coil, Stabbing Westward, Type O Negative, Filter, The Nuge (Stranglehold, specifically), Tool, Sisters of Mercy, NIN, and the original remix of Faster Pussycat's "House of Pain"... (It's very old school NIN-ish).

I would love to find some good Celt-trance songs.. traditional instruments with some synth to fill it out.

Greetings,
One of my favorites is Little Whip.

Artist: Danzig
Album: Danzig 4 (explicit)
Title: Little Whip

You crawl across the floor
On your hands and knees
To seek revelation
Little whip
I pull you up
I grab your hair
I give you hope
Little whip
I give the black sun
To sear off your tounge
I gave you a life
Little whip
A come onlittle whip
A come onlittle whip
A come onlittle whip
A come onlittle whip

I pull you up
I grab your hair
I give you hope
Little whip
I gave you the world you beheld in a dream
I gave you a night cry
Little whip

You lick your wounds
And you come right back
I give you nothing
Little whip
I send the black sun
And eclipse your moon
I steal your hope
Little whip

I am a big fan of Tool but I have always wanted to beat someone to AC\DCs You shook me all night long. the track list of the CD I use often include Opiate by tool Closer by NIN Bodies by Drowning Pool Down with the Sickness by Disturbed and Crossfire by Nephilym. That is the song quoted in my signature.

Something that I do consistently is listen to NPR's "Hearts of Space" program, produced by Stephen Hill. This program showcases various "new age" and spacey sounding artists from around the world. Often, you'll get stuck listening to some pretty bland stuff, but other times, the hour will reward you with some of the most amazing scene music you've ever heard in your life! Through it, I've discovered artists like Michael Stearns, Steve Roach, and Richard Bone. I record it weekly... and often re-record over it the next week when I find the music "flacid" from the week before. When it's really firing on all cylinders, (the fall season is especially good, when they showcase darker, gloomier music) I go out and either download the artists I like, or run out and buy their CD's. If interested, just pull up the NPR website, and find out where the program is syndicated in your area.

TwistedPoet -> RE: Looking for good scene music (7/6/2007 1:01:53 AM)

The soundtrack album from the movie "A Clockwork Orange", by Walter (Wendy) Carlos.

Really dark and ritualistic if you are into that form of play.

Another good one that I enjoy is Tubular Bells by Mike Oldflield. It's about 32 minutes without a break, so there are no annoying pauses, and the themes are consistant and build upon each other.

I'm probably giving my age away with this as well.

Any prog rock. I like making up a Mixed Disk with Alan Parsons Project, Blue Oyster Cult, Nickleback, things like that.
