It's invasive, sure, but you have to consider the context. As said, for now at least it's voluntary for paseengers to choose this scan over the regular procedure. However, at Amsterdam Airport there are also flights which have what they call a "100% check". ALL passengers for those flights (mainly arrivals from Surinam or the Dutch Antiles or possibly other flights with a high cocaine-importation-risk) get searched, including a physical examination into certain bodily orifices. That might be more invasive than this new type of scan, so this scan might actually make certain procedures LESS invasive rather than more.
