Are you talking about the dandelion problem?
In my town, even though the town owns part of the ground near the curb, the homeowner remains responsible for maintenance of that area (mowing, weed eating).
The best thing to do is deal with the violations.

it is not the one infraction- it is the likleyhood that a crackdown happens every 3 weeks.  this is the 2nd time i have been repremanded- aaand this is not the dumpist place in town.  the point is- this code officer will keep coming back- consider it gentrification.

Move to Otero County, NM, where individual property rights take priority over quality of life issues. The place is a shithole and an eyesore, but you'll have your freedom from petty code enforcement.

command and control.

the code guy whips out this book as tho the king has this declaration- and how lucky i am that he isnt citing me for chipped paint.

WTF.  i thought "I" owned this place?

my point is- that- no matter what else i do to enhance the neighborhood- they have THEIR agenda and will be back- again and again and again.

i was so optimistic- and now i feel like "why bother".  at the moment- im thining one of those neighborhoods in Pittsburgh would be better. where they have more to do then worry about dandelions.

I'm not familiar with the details, but buttonhole the Mayor, and say something like:

"Hey that's a nice car, it looks like you could use a new set of tires. Go see my friend Vinny, HANDS VINNY'S TIRES CARD TO MAYOR. And he'll take care of you, and he'll send the bill my way".

EDIT: The Code ENFORCEMENT guy? Not the mayor? If so, same strategy, substitute "SUIT" for "TIRES". Adjust accordingly.

i have some thinking to do.  the city itself has "infractions"- i have one of those blue international code books- i can find dirt.

I had been landscaping the side yard= with 5 rose bushes and 7 confiers. also canna bulbs. I purposefully did not want in to a homeowner association group-

the mayor owns a collection agency- as well as 45 rental properties.  he did not get his wealth by being "nice".    in efect- it feels like im living INN a collection agaecny.

Today it is dandelion inspectors, tomorrow it is the Thought Police issuing citations.

I have NOT heard from the mayor.  These supposed covenents.  Historically- Selinsgrove and Lewisburg are the pricey zip codes. This has always been blue collar- working class town.

I cant say I am movated to do any more planting or paint what so ever.

This "in your face" governance is not for me. The supposition is that I have been an absentee landlord- and moron- with no regard toward the community. When in fact- the facts are the opisite.

I do not need to be scolded over dandelions- like I have been a bad boy- and failed to do my chores.

I had immeasurable enthusiasm toward  rebuilding a dynamic community.  For today= "they" can kiss my azz.

As now- it seems- I have to look over my shoulder and wonder every day if I am violating any infraction what-so-ever.

I is not as tho- I been the eye soar of the block for several months. And am now- figuring I had a chance to get settled-

Are there dandelions in the park? near the mayors office?  how about at the public housing complex?

I am steaming mad over this.  If I bought into say Palos Park Illinois- I would have expected the block patrol- but not in Sunbury- which also bares the nick name "scumbury" and "slumbury".   There are many eye soars that are so much worse. How about the place 4 doors down- been empty 5 years now.

The deed- did not have "restrictive covenents" on it.

reminds me of moscow. you can be fined for a unwashed car.

maybe ill --defanatly do some thinking.

The premise per the mayor is that im in non-compliance.   I don't think too many would be happy if I trully WAS NON COMPLIANT.

I realize there are ordinances intown. But frankly I am highly insulted- that private property- is "managed" by a "collcection agency".

Now if you were doing something REALLY bad - like say, smoking, I'd imagine that compliance on your "personal property" would be justified? After all, your dandelion seed pods have the potential to blow into someone else's personal space.

Yesterday cigarette smoking, today dandelions, tomorrow???

Edited to add:
Your "fighting city hall", haven't contributed big bucks to the political campaign, and the mayor is the owner of a large block of properties; good luck with that battle my friend.

comparing notes with a neighbor- seems this is the way it is these days.

it is a curious struggle.  gentrification vs gangs planting.

Under the constitution- I had??? "quiet enjoyment " of  my "property"

the city still must comply with ADA 508 law.

dragnet sweeps over code infractions.... solves ?.  it is all the police can do to keep the gangs out. they are here but havent taken root yet.

dandelions- could be considered part of the eco system per the department of the interior.

when the code guy was lecturing me for an hour- the dog took a shit inn my bedroom.

i would not want to really PO me. i can be a screwball.

perhaps the gayest possible design will take hold here for my home. complete with nude scupplutures in the yard- and a glory hole schulpute.    etched in with profound staments into the aluminum sidiung-
im talking SO GAY that traffic snarles up!!!    balloons and banners proclaiming sunbury the gayest place on earth!

pa hunk,
Careful with that idea. I watched a program yesterday regarding the gay area formed in Chicago. (I forget the area's name.) Anyway, the gay community went into this run down, gang controlled area of the city full of abandoned houses and went in as a community, bought foreclosed and condemned properties, opened stores, bars, art galleries, clubs, and generally made it a great neighborhood. Now, developers are coming in, building high end condos and the new residents are complaining about the noise from the clubs!

merc- it has been a few hours for me to reflect-think-steam on this.

i could maybe file a complint with HUD over the general tactics.  these "codes" are more like restrictive covenants of a deed. which the deed to this place does not have.  the letter handed to me is placed in my "file" at city hall.  the rub comes in- per the conclussion that the code guy will arrive avery few weeks with such letters.    private property is just that. this afternnon a squad car followed me- as i came from the grocery store.  he was fine.  no harrassment there.

a cities mayor can not unilaterally upsurpt- state-federal law.

and now that i think of it- there was a man visable POd that i bought the place- and not him.

also- i have mineral/coal rights= if i see the house- i do not intend to sell those rights.

my psychiatrist wanted me to buy a small place near mount carmel- which is semi white trash.

hhmm- a restraining order against a "city" ???

everyone aanwers to someone. everyone.

i sorta dont care abnout keeping this particular poperrty. tho im not going to just give it away.

maybe i can declare myself a church.

They aren't supposed.  If they exist they should be written on your deed.
I know that mine are.  They aren't strictly enforced in my area unless people get out of hand with them.  They mainly regulate the amount and size of buildings you can have on your lot.

Long as you can confine your dandelions to the dandelion section, and not infect the neighbors who have life threatening hay fever, I dont see any real problem with having dandelions.

Just me, etc.

Yes - just control the wind pa-hunk, and people will then be concerned about your rights.
