We go to at least a couple of Ren Faires a year... unfortunately there's nothing reasonably close by (4-hour drive to the closest), or we'd probably attend more.

My wife keeps trying to get me to go to Pennsic... i'm still waiting for Creative Anachronism-ism to encompass air-conditioned hotel rooms with indoor plumbing on site, 'cuz this is one bear that don't shit in the woods [:D]

Greetings again Nosathro,

Well, once i get more of my garb replaced and the chain mail done. i will get pictures added to my profile.

But You have to admit that night in the store with her behind You all dressed in garb.. It had a strong feeling to it. [;)]. i know that when i was with my x-Master, the feelings were more for me at least. Because we were doing something we both enjoyed.

Be well, May Your homestone grow to Your liking, May Your sword never break in battle, and may all the serve be pleasing for You

my Mate and i have considered the SCA off and on and given little effort to join,,, my Mate doesn't like the "safe" weapon thing.

Greetings phoenixinchains,

As Nosathro stated before. Adrian Empire is an off shot of the SCA and the do deal with 'live steel'. You may have to check into it to see if it is in Your area, because the last time i heard they were in many areas. But that was many many moons ago.

greetings petdave,

The Ren Faires are wonderful to attend. i just wish i haven't missed then as i have lately. The last one i was at, i was dared to do this one rock climbing to see if i could beat some of the Guys that were falling off. Granted i would have done it but damn i would have been gripping on for dear life, since i'm afraid of heights. But that is another story for a different time.

As for Your bear comment. They do (well should) have porta pots at the Wars. You will have to make it at least to one Pennsic War. Because omg, it is an experience in its self. But if You and Your Wife ever make it out here for Estrella War around Valentine's Day. You will have to let me know. That is if i'm still in the area i'll go to War that year.

As I recall, there were a lot of folks that stayed at local motels rather than camped out at Pennsic.  I know one year I went and it was in the 90's all week...then another year it rained literally every day....if I went again, I'd probably opt to stay at a local motel and just go to the campgrounds for the days LOL

Is Markland still around?  That was another group in the Mid-Atlantic area that used live steel.

I actually bought my first flogger at a Pennsic, now that I think about it.  I still have it - a short suede stingy one.  I think Adamn and Gillian's was there in the market place one year.

The link is www.adrianempire.org.  Well, for me if I go to a Ren Faire, War Game etc..I bring my pavailion..I just can't go for the day.  I find living of that area very relaxing at night by a camp fire..sing (?) hearing the rythm of the drums, the women dancing for the pleasure of the men, the food (taste better) and the ale.  Ah dreamygirl..your chainmail..is it functional for battle or do you wear it as more how should I say it..for show?  Seems more women are wearing chainmail at these events for show.

'ello : )
i read of that on the earlier page, and mused how it did seem closer to my Mate's taste. though i worry His busy work shedual might be frowned on... i looked at the site below (thank Y/you N) and it seems there's a group in reasonable distance,,, it's still the matter of my Mate getting off work...
but all the same, thanks again dreamy and N- phoenix
((sighs)) i miss nakey fire dancing.

That's pretty common, particularly at Ren Faires as opposed to more "historically accurate" groups.  The last couple times I've been to Ren Faires, most of the costumes of the patrons (not the workers) looked more Xena meets Jerry Springer than period LOL

dreamygirl -> RE: Renaissance Fairs/SCA membership (5/17/2007 7:20:19 AM)

Greetigns Nosathro,

Yes, the nights are filled with wonder. ~sighs~ i miss the rythym of the drums and the dances by the fire light of the campfires. As for the chain mail it is more for the show and the bells that are attached for the jingles. There is something about the jingles that gets me going at times.

For Battle i prefer the thick, hard , but flexable leather armor. it takes more of the blunt force of the hit then any of the other armor that i have seen. Boy i miss hard suit fighting. ~sighs~ The good ol' days.

Greetings Ms. Sonnet Marwood,

Yes, the Ren Faires have turned more and more into Xena meets Jerry or National lampoons. It is a shame that Many have turned it into that, but hey what do i know.
