What a neat story.  Thanks for posting it, Fargle.  I never knew there was such an artist within him.

Too bad he can't conduct a War the way he can conduct the orchestra!

TheHeretic -> RE: Chimpy's Hitting the Booze/Pills/Coke Again.... (5/14/2007 8:13:47 PM)

Funny what happens when the previous conductor steps aside with dignity and everybody cooperates with a change of leadership isn't it?

Generally, the orchestra and the conductor have a clear idea of what their actual mission is.  They all have the same music.  They all want the same outcome.

Putting a bunch of people in a room who can play an oboe, or a trumpet, or a guitar, and wave a baton generally does not equate to a well performed symphony.

The primary difference between an orchestra and, say, the Iraq war, is that in an orchestra all the people know they are going to play "Chicago" and that there will be a time in the evening when the music ends and they can go home.

Please clarify how this compares to the cluster-fuck in Mesopotamia.

Did I say one fucking word about our national endeavors in the ME, Sinergy?

IF I was alluding to anything larger than our President's musical talents, it would have been in the far larger analogy to the Democrat/Liberal/Left reaction to his assumption of power in 2001.

Fair enough.

Please clarify how the analogy of the Democrat/Liberal/Left reaction to his assumption of power, predicated to a great deal on his loss of power in the most recent election as the Republican/Conservative/Right's lost control of both houses of Congress, relates to his ability or inability in running an orchestra.

I apologize for suggesting you were attemping to draw a comparison between his running an orchestra and his failure at running a war and/or country.  I will never assume that you support the idiocies he has forced on the United States by his moronic policies, that were supported by an incompetent and insane Congress again.

Peace out.

I'm not entirely clear on what you're asking me to clarify here, Sinergy.  Could you perhaps clarify this question?  I'll take a shot at what I think you are asking.

It's very thin analogy that I flashed on.  A glimpse of a moment, when people accepted an unexpected change with grace.

I don't like the nasty tone of partisanship we have in this country.  I don't care which side practices it (admittedly, I'm a bit more pissed at one side than I am another these days).  I'm not only the guy who says that the anti-war movement hurt the possibilities of avoiding our current situation in Iraq, I'm also the one who says that if the Republicans hadn't been out for Bill Clinton's head on a plate, that very smart President might have dealt with the Al-Queada situation while it was easy.

What I support, and what I go along with because I can't make a positive change are two different things.

I was responding to this statement, TheHeretic.

If you are unclear about your meaning, I suspect I will be unable to help you.

Hence, the capitalized 'if.'  A Louis Armstrong moment  ... "and I think to myself... what a wonderful world."

I think we're all in agreement that the man is a total fucking idiot, and it's sorta amazing he could move a baton and count to 4 at the same time.

Get back to me on that in 19 months and some-odd days.

I fear this may say more about the nature of conducting an orchestra, than about the personal talents of the President.

What I find amazing is that the hatred for someone can be so deep and unreasoning that even a simple, human thing like enjoying music and clowning around a little can be used as just another example of  "stupidity".

Derangement Syndrome, indeed.

HEY, being able to count 1-2-3-4 and move the baton DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, UP is a REAL CHALLENGE to some people.

And FH, since he's not IN THE UNION, he needs to STAY OFF THE FUCKING STAGE.

Like all the snide jokes made about Clinton by republicans? Remember him being attacked for simply playing the sax on a late night talk show while he was campaigning?

What about Newt going after Clinton for getting a little somthing on the side while Newt was doing the exact same thing?

Clearly the blind unreasoning hatred is all on the Democrats side, NOT!

BTW my issue with him both during this appearance as well as the recent dancing during the dance troupes appearance at the White House isn't with him enjoying himself, the job is apparently really stressful even if you are trying very hard, but with what it looks like he has been doing. Both times he had a kind of weird smile on his face which I, having grown up with alcoholics, associate with a drunk being half in the bag.

He is an admitted alcoholic and has all the hallmarks of being what is known as a dry drunk so if he has fallen off the wagon that should be a concern for all of us.
