   i am going to have my first flogging and have heard many things from differnet people, both good and bad, and know that everyone responds differently. But was mainly curious on how to be prepared for the first "lash" i guess you could call it.

I mean who ever is going to be flogging you knows its a first time right?

Floggers are wonderful - unless the intention is to cause alot of pain

Really, it would be like asking how you will react to your first taste of green tea ice cream.  Or the first time you have a cock in your pussy, or  putting in contact lenses (OK that's usually weird and disorienting).

Trust me, there are a million ways to flog someone with a thousand different types of floggers on a few hundred places of your body.  If you're really worried- ask the top doing the flogging what their style is like and what they are going for.  A good top knows it's always better to start easy and progress up.

Status: offline 		My first flogging...*grins*  oh I loved it so much.  It was on my birthday earlier this month.  She started slow and kept building as we progressed through her range of floggers.  All the while she was watching, making sure I was ok.  All I did was raise my hands and grab a bar hanging from the ceiling and when I was at that point, I could just let go and she would stop and cool down.  I never let go, but she saw I was to that point.  If you have such a person holding the flogger for you,  you will find something that you can't wait to do again and again.

Status: offline 		until i got my first taste of a flogging from MK, it never really did much for me.  I have 2 floggers, one a heavy suede one, and a smaller leather one.  Both have fairly wide tails on them, and the suede one has more of them.  Prior to MK, the floggings were just so-so......more of a thuddy feeling than anything else.  But he must know how to properly use one, cuz OMG!!!!!!   He can make it painful, or he can make it soothing, it just depends on his mood.  Personally, i now love the floggers, however, i have yet to be exposed to an extended flogging, but based on what he's given me so far, that's the best possibilty for me to hit subspace.  The only time i have a problem with it is when he gets too close to my ears....the "pop" of the instrument he's using hurts them.  He once caught me with a strap, and my ear rang for a day.

But just relax and enjoy the sensations.......in the hands of someone who knows how to use it, the flogger can be heavenly!

Status: offline 		First time, I felt a flogger was when a friend showed me hers.  She passed it to me and I started to quickly experiment on myself.  Wow.. ended up taking off my shirt stiking my back over my shoulder.   She offered her assistence and topped for a bit, then offered to bottom for me while I got a feel for it.   Needless to say, I Loved it and made a small road trip to go buy one that weekend.   I've been a complete fan of floggers since then. 

Try not to think about it too much, just do it.  Your Dom will probally warm you up a little and start off with a light lashing.   Don't expect for it to be really extreme from the get go.   Most Dom/mes don't start off with heavy lashing on somebody that has never experienced flogging before.  I'm certain there are few out there that do or have before.  I don't know the mindset or the intentions and character of the Dom/me that's going to do this to you.

Status: offline 		I guess the best way to get the most out of your first flogging is to have some kind of connection with the person whose doing it, after that just allow them to take you for the ride. There is nothing you can really do to prepare yourself for a new experience, whatever it is.

My first flogging was absolutly wonderful. My second, was a disaster.
 
Just let yourself relax and enjoy it. Afterwards, you can process all the feelings; but for now...just go with it

This just reminded me of a painful yet funny experience...  We were in the middle of a flogging scene and was distracted by a loud crash in the kitchen... I was in the middle of pulling back for another lash.  Amazing how natural body reflexes work at times... I ended up smacking myself in the side of my head right on the ear.  Oh it Stung like hell and I had ringing in my ear too.  Thanks for stirring this memory up.   If anybody has ever hit themselves by accident with a flogger, don't feel bad you are not alone!

The cat had somehow got on top of the Refrigerator and knocked the Slow Cooker off into the floor, while we were playing in the living room.

Status: offline 		I remember my first flogging well. She was giving a demonstration for a group, and she had me volunteer. After the first lash, I told her she hit like a girl. (used to be a sas). Not recommended. The second one hurt. I mean hurt, hurt. After that it was exciting! She kept checking to make sure I was ok. After it was over I asked on a scale of 1 to 10, what had I endured. She told me maybe a 2. Damn! Start slow.

Status: offline 		I was recently at a private party and two Mistress friends and myself decided to have a little competition to see which of us could take the most with a flogger. One of the Mistresses is known for being particularly evil with a flogger. You can always find her in a club from the sound of the thuds.
I honestly felt like she was knocking my lungs right out of me and Im shamed to say that I did not last long.

Status: offline 		Floggers can be soft and supple or stiff and hard. They can be light weight or a heavy "mop". They can sting or thud.

It depends on what the floggers is and who is using it.

Personally, I love a good heavy, thuddy flogger.

Status: offline 		my first flogging was by a close friend who was a switch and was topping me to teach me the basics of BDSM.  i was not at all certain that i even wanted a flogging but she reassured me and then beat my ass....and back.  After i got over the terror the combination of pain dull and sharp and pleasure was intoxicating.  Now i love a good flogging whenever i can get one.  The only preparation i could recommend is know and trust your flogger and relax and enjoy yourself.

Status: offline 		I echo the sentiments here. It is essential that the Top knows it's your first time. They should warm you up gently. When I do a first flogging, I experiment a bit to see if the sub responds better to thud or sting (as a sub, i like thud, hate sting!). Also whether they like Me to stop after a few strokes and caress the area (as my sub side likes), or whether they get into it better if I just keep going steadily. And I stop when they are just pink because some people's skin continues to redden quite alarmingly once you've stopped! So until I know their skin better, I err on the side of caution. When done well, it is a wonderful way to release endorphins and have a great cathartic experience! As a sub, my favourite flogging was when Master was thudding hard on my shoulders and alternating each stroke with a soft upsweep between my legs while i was on the cross. It was such a mindfuck, i was thinking "don't get it wrong! Please don't get your strokes mixed up!" LOL! (He didn't, phew!). Good luck and I hope you love it.

Status: offline 		I agree that you can't tell what it's like till you try it. I thought it was going to be wonderful, make me fly, etc etc as I'd read all about that. In reality it was boring and/or painful and the best I could say about it is that if hit not very hard on the upper back it came close to feeling like a massage. We no longer bother with that particular toy as there are less exhausting (for him) ways for my dom to beat me.
