or some other variation... I do not think I can go three days without seeing someone put that in a post on on one of the topics. 

Why do men throw that little qualifier in?  If they need to toss it in, isn't there an inherent value on beauty as well.. because the are better that the hot chicks that want them... they are placing a value on them by making themselves better than that, no?

Dunno, semi-rant on a morning with no caffine I suppose... maybe I am getting too crotchety in my  old age!

I can say honestly, sometimes you see a woman you are attracted to, who thinks she is unattractive.  They ask "Why are you hounding me?"  (or some variation involving stalking, hounding, bothering ... etc.) In an attempt to explain an attraction, words are often difficult to convey when put on the spot.

It's not just to get laid (though that is part of it); there is part of it trying to convince the woman you are chatting up is prettier than she beileves.

Asking this question is one of many unfair word battles.  It isn't always a line ...
