Yes, never before in the history of the United States has the head of the Catholic church tried to manipulate by mandate the legislative process and government of this Country.

Brilliant.

If you want to follow the Church's teachings, then you probably want to delete your CM profile.  We Catholics are taught that sexual acts, even within the confines of marriage, are sinful if they do not involve the chance of procreation.  I suppose BDSM is OK as long as you don't become aroused though. [:D]

The opinion of Pope Hitler-Youth is worth less than a bag of dogshit.

He seems like an OK guy to me.  I'll go back to Church on Sundays when I have a wife and kids.  I figure...why should they get off scott free? [:D]

I don't think the Pope would think to highly of you....It's funny that a guy who has never seen a vagina has managed to ram his entire thought process inside of one (Speaking of the Pope ...not FDD...I'm sure FatDomDaddy is knee deep in the shit)

puella -> RE: Pope warns Catholic politicians who back abortion (5/9/2007 6:49:59 PM)

Ratsinger was one of the most fundamentalist and power hungery cardinals in a long time.  It is a definate step backwards for the church that he was made pope.

domiguy -> RE: Pope warns Catholic politicians who back abortion (5/9/2007 6:52:39 PM)

It might just prove to him what little power he has if he really pusues this measure ...I think it would be hysterical.

One can only hope... he is a real prada-wearing cock sucker.

Remember folks, this is the same religion famous for the Inquisition, the stigmata, self-flagellation and hair shirts.

There was a case in Ireland this week where a young woman had to go to the high court in Ireland to be able to travel to England to get an abortion for a seriously deformed fetus because in Ireland abortion is illegal. It appears she had the sympathy of the judges who put the right to travel above the right of the fetus. This is the stupidity of the illegality of abortions. Some 5,000 women travel from Ireland travel to England every year for abotions, rather cruel making women go to another country for such an operation to save the Catholic lawmakers facing the reality of what is happening in their own country. The pope deserves dirision in this case.

Hey Vendaval,

Though I am loathe to defend any religion, they all have major fuck ups throughout history, due to the political nature of their heirarchy (which was much more pronounced when the religions actually WERE major political powers in the world rather than strictly personal faith communities).  Having spent a period of time as a nun, I do not think it is terribly fair to cast all Catholics as flagellating, witch-hunting crusaders is pretty inaccurate, even in the periods of those particular dark times.  The extremists of every faith seem to draw more attention (morbid attention) than the everyday practitioner who has so very little in common with the zealots.  Some people of faith, even Catholics, are transcendentall beautifull.. look at Mother Theresa.

so what?  i thought kennedy was the only catholic pres in history anyway?  to the best of my recolection the greater majority were other religions that did nto exactly claim the papacy as their role model anyway.  not sure but just off the top

LadyEllen -> RE: Pope warns Catholic politicians who back abortion (5/10/2007 7:05:11 AM)

Whats always puzzled me about the Catholic church (and its descendants) is that it proposes that the head of the church is in direct apostolic succession, whence he derives authority and infallibility. What this means, should the succession, authority and infallibility be valid, is that decisions made by previous heads of the church were valid and right; crusades, inquisitions et al, and the persecution and vilification of Jewry. There is no need to apologise for any of it, and any such apology demonstrates that previous decisions were in error and that the notion of infallibility is therefore equally erroneous.

In addition, the head of the church and all the bishops etc are guided by the holy spirit, which is specifically requested to guide them from the moment they are appointed to their positions. What this means is, that every decision they make is guided by God, and given that this God is unchanging in nature, those decisions must remain valid at all times, forever. Where apologies are made for prior decisions then, the church makes a mockery of the holy spirit and thus God, by going against the original guidance given. Either that, or the holy spirit is non existent or ineffective - both blasphemies too, or the holy spirit is found not willing to guide the church, thus breaching any notion of apostolic succession and any authority and infallibility arising from that succession.

Can anyone clarify all this for me please, and explain why anyone should listen to a word that comes from the Catholic church or any of its descendants (Church of England, for instance)?

E

puella -> RE: Pope warns Catholic politicians who back abortion (5/10/2007 7:14:04 AM)

You shouldnt; you are not Catholic and do not have their faith base.

Any religion is going to have errors great and small, even if 'driven' by the holy spirit, because men are left to do the buisness and we always fuck up even the most divine concepts. Another of the major tenets of the Catholic faith is that man was created with a will and spirit of his own... God does not micro manage like a newbie dom doing is first scene at Paddles.

The issue is fath and to some degree, heritage.  Though I do not practice the faith of Catholicism anymore, the values, holidays etc, are so entrenched in my family that to some degree or another, there will always be remnants in my life.

For some, faith and spirituality refine them and make them a better person, for others not (even within the clergy), it really is that simple

For the love of everything holy, LadyEllen, how are any of us poor sinners gonna get past St. Peter at the Holy Gates if we don't at least claim to try to obey their edicts?
